Catabasis Uses

Catabasis (Katabasis) has a few different meanings but the most popular meaning is a large movement or expedition either in a downward direction or in the direction of the coastline. Catabasis comes from the Greek word (Kata) which means down or downwards.

The word also makes an appearance in the Oxford English Dictionary as a way to say going down or military action of retreat. Past tense is cataben meaning “went down”.

Katabasis or Katabasis

The antonym of Katabasis is Anabasis. This also comes from the Greek word (Ana) up or into and has been used when describing expeditions deeper into a country or territory.
